28th June 2002: OFFICIAL INAUGURATION OF THE ENTIRE MUSEUM
After 15 years of ceaseless innovation and increasing visitor numbers (over 50,000 a year), the Alimentarium Food Museum in Vevey - a Nestlé foundation - seized the opportunity afforded by an extensive renovation project to make some major changes to the museum's architecture as well as to the permanent exhibition.
The work was put in hand at the end of October 2000 and required the complete closure of the museum for nine months. The ground floor was reopened to the public at the end of July 2001. February 2002 saw the start of a temporary exhibition entitled "An Exhibition Revisited, or The Exhibited Exhibition", dealing with ways and means of presenting food and nutrition in a museum.
